This Amazon Prime movie shares the story of 40-year-old art curator Solene (Anne Hathaway) who sparks a passionate relationship with Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), a 24 year-old member of the most popular boy band in the world. Their romance is challenged by their age gap, different lifestyles, and the weight of the public eye.
We're in an era of fanfiction being greenlit to become a blockbuster movie. That doesn't make it good. A lot of the acting felt forced, making scenes look awkward and uncomfortable. And there were so many unecessary characters who contributed nothing to the plot. Hayes is in a band with four other guys but three of them have no lines and are barely shown on screen. I felt like maybe Hayes could've been a solo artist instead; it wouldn't deviate from the original storyline, and there would be fewer nameless characters.

There were too many plotlines that I felt weren't delved into enough: how Hayes became involved with the band, what eventually happened between Solene and her ex-husband, etc. It just felt like there was too much happening that was left unexplored by the end. Some of these narratives had potential, but the movie primarily focuses on the main romance. The chemistry between the leads was surprisingly believable (but Anne Hathaway is talented enough to have chemistry with a rock). The synergy between them was probably the best part of the movie.
I don't understand how Anne Hathaway is supposed to portray an authentic 40-year-old when she looks like that. She's so obviously beautiful which I felt took away from her normalcy; she always looked too polished to be real. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at how "indie" and "different" she was supposed to be because of her love for art. There were some good themes involved like personal reinvention and self-discovery, but I think they should've been focused on more. The bad far outweighs the good with this movie.
